KIDS

MUSIC VIDEO

ROLE:

DIRECTOR

CINEMATOGRAPHER

EDITOR

The first video created in my first year of taking the BTEC Creative Media course. A music video of the song Kids by MGMT, which aims to capture the loss of innocence and youth of a protagonist that fails to feel present at his own birthday party–it is only until he recalls the many memories with a nostalgic as opposed to a mournful lens can he embrace the current moment. I created this video independently in terms of directing and cinematography as this was my first attempt with experimenting with the popular low-budget music video aesthetic.

TV PILOT

ROLE:

DIRECTOR

CINEMATOGRAPHER

EDITOR

A BTEC film project where we were tasked to produce the pilot of our own hypothetical Netflix television show; following the life of an eccentric psychologist named Charlie. Set in the new future, civilians of Hong Kong and most other parts of the world are able to recall memories and experiences digitally in a world where humans are now equipped with a REMI–an implant able to quantify the human experience by recording everything you see do and hear. I chose to create a reality that demonstrates the pitfalls of future technology and mental health in a more light-hearted sense rather than in a hyper-minimalist dystopian fashion.

SHORT FILM

ROLE:

DIRECTOR

CINEMATOGRAPHER

EDITOR

A ‘slice of life’ autobiographical short film, which was my very first attempt at filming a personal narrative. This film is a family coming-of-age drama that focuses on the bond between two sisters. Despite varying age gaps, being a younger sibling, you have an innate loyalty and urge to be with the other, it’s almost as if you’ve been given a lifelong friend, but there comes a point where the relationship takes a turn and this was the psychological experience I wanted to encapsulate in the point of view of the younger sibling.

THE DAY BRUCE LEE DIED DOCUMENTARY

ROLE:

DIRECTOR

CINEMATOGRAPHER

EDITOR

A short documentary about the spirit of Hong Kong youth. Watching Joshua Wong question “Where are all the adults?” in his Netflix documentary, made me think of the jarring disparity between the youth and adults in today’s society. It made me ask myself how I fit into all this and if this gap existed within my own family. There isn't much dialogue allowed in so much chaos, and I hope that by looking backwards at my father’s upbringing, I could somehow close the widening gap by bringing forth the actually similar philosophies and spirit of HK youth in the 60s and now.
